About Montenegro

Montenegro is situated on the southeast part of Europe and it belongs to central Mediterranean area. It spreads over 13.812 km and has a population of 650.575. Montenegro borders Serbia on the north, Bosnia Herzegovina and Croatia on the west, Albania on the southeast, while the south part goes out towards the Adriatic Sea, which separates Montenegro from Italy. The capital, i.e. administrative center is Podgorica (173.000 inhabitants), and the seat and also the cultural and historical center is Cetinje. The area of Montenegro is characterized by several geomorphologic totalities, which make Montenegro at the same time coastal, continental and mountain country with four different climates.

The climate of Montenegro, besides its latitude and altitude is also characterized by the water area of the Adriatic sea and lake Skadar, then by deep penetration of the sea into the mainland in Bokakotorska Bay. Also, high mountains Orien, Lovcen and Rumija as well as the mountain massif of the Durmitor, Bjelasica and Prokletije prevent warm wind from entering. The south of Montenegro enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with log dry summers and short mild winters. At the seaside, an average July maximum temperatures are around 28C with a high approaching 30C, winter maximum temperatures are around -10C and minimums around –27.5C. Podgorica is the warmest city in Montenegro, where maximum
temperature can reach up to 40C and the minimum -10C.

Road network in Montengro is 7.314 km long in total. The most important highways are Jadranska magistrala (Adriatic Highway), leading from Herceg-Novi to Ulcinj, as well as a highway from Bar through Bijelo Polje to Serbia, which connects the north and the south of the Republic. Airway transport is performed on the international airports in Podgorica and Tivat which are distant 12km and 4 km from the city centers. Domestic and international transport supply the connection with all world important destinations (Belgrade, Budapest, Paris, Zagreb, Zürich, Frankfurt, Rome, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Vienna, Istanbul, Munich, Moscow).
